December of 2012. That’s the last time I updated my Flexslider plugin. Truth be told I’ve been trying to update it for the last 7-8 months or so but ran into a real roadblock trying to get the styling right using the latest flexslider script from WooThemes. That roadblock really took the wind out of my sails and as a result I abandoned the plugin up until about a week ago when I stumbled upon the Owl Carousel script.
What a difference that made. I was able to get a working slider up and running in relatively short order and that small win caused development to pick back up at a rapid pace. Within 1 week I was able to fully integrate the new script and finish all the development work I wanted to do on version 1.0. Aside from almost completely rewriting the core structure of the plugin, I’ve added some useful features and enhancements.
- In addition to the standard slider, support has been added for an image carousel as well.
- Content-focused post types were excluded from the old version of the plugin as their potential use was never considered. This has been addressed and things like testimonials, recipes, etc… now function quite well with the slider.
- Previously some users had noted their slider caption selection wasn’t working, and it was being caused by improper case. This has now been resolved and my plugin will force lower case, eliminating those issues.
- By adding in some handy filters, I’ve made it easy for advanced users and other developers to customize almost every aspect of the slider including the image, content and caption. This flexibility will be on display when I add flexslider support to my testimonial and portfolio plugins over the next couple months.
It’s been a long time coming but I’m really excited about this release. I hope you all enjoy it and as always, I welcome any and all constructive feedback. If you use the plugin and like it, don’t forget to leave a review!
